Your pet’s emotional health is as important as their physical health for good quality of life. As part of your pet’s complete examination we ask about their behaviour in and out of the home environment and suggest changes to support their emotional well being. Our veterinarian can diagnose physical causes that may be responsible for behaviour changes, diagnose behaviour disorders, and prescribe treatments and sedatives to assist in behaviour treatment.

Socialization is a process which teaches your new puppy or kitten that meeting new people, meeting new animals and going new places is fun not scary. Socialization saves lives by preventing fear and aggression in our pets. At Carriage Crossing Animal Hospital, we think this is so important that we offer complimentary Kindergarten classes for our puppy and kitten clients after their first vaccine until they are 16 weeks old. Our Kindergarten class teaches you to understand your pet’s language, introduces both of you to other pets and their families, and serves as a foundation for the skills needed to follow cues and behave politely.

A brief visit to our hospital with no handling, or training, just treats and relaxation to increase confidence for your pet’s next regular visit. Pets will start to think of us as the place with the treats not the place with the needles making future visits more relaxing and stress-free.
Friendly Visits
Victory Visits
Your pet’s past experiences, anxieties and a lack of understanding can make exams stressful for them and treatment difficult
Rather than give up or “just get it done” which will make things worse, we offer Victory Visits to help change how your pet feels about the things they currently find scary and stressful. Victory Visits are paid training sessions to work specifically on a pet’s tolerance for procedures like nail trimming, ear care, injections and general handling using tools such as desensitization and counter conditioning. Victory Visits include advice on goal setting and planning a behaviour modification program.

House Training and Crate Training
House soiling is one of the biggest complaints of new pet owners that can really damage the bond with your new pet. We work with you to create strategies and routines that help your pet understand where to go and how to ask to go out while minimizing accidents in the house. Crate training is a life skill for dogs to have, that gives them a home away from home, making it easier and more relaxing for them to go new places.

Some pets need a little help to keep their veterinary visits Fear Free. Pre-visit pharmaceuticals are a wonderful tool we use to reduce fear, anxiety and stress during their appointment. They are not the same as sedation or anesthesia, and have limited adverse effects. Rather this group of medications make cats and dogs a little sleepy and less anxious so they are more tolerant of handling. We care about your pet’s emotional well-being as well as their physical health and love the way medications a few hours beforehand prevent stress and anxiety.
